inding
winners on horse racing on a regular basis is a skill that
practically all bettors would love to have. It’s one of the hardest
things to predict, as the sport can spring surprises for even the
most knowledgeable of punters.

Some
horses as transcendent and able to rise to the occasion due to their
brilliance on the track, although those are few and far between.

It
behoves would-be gamblers to pay attention to three key areas when
picking horses to bet on if you’re not overly familiar with the
sport, which we’ll break down below for your convenience.

Form

If
you’re unsure of what horse to pick before the start of the
race, the form guide is your best friend. It will detail the
position in which the horse has finished in its last meets.
Competitors have different ranges of experience depending on whether
it’s the flat or jumps discipline.

It
helps to remember that horses that compete in the flat season can
have limited experience, as they tend to have short and sharp
careers. Jump horses, on the other hand, can compete over a
number of years, with many competing beyond the age of 10. It’s
always best to judge on recent form rather than a horse that might
have a history, although don’t discount that some competitors may
perform better at certain venues over others.

Trainer and Jockey

The leading trainers in the sport tend to have the best horses competing in their major events. Depending on the trainer, some they may have several horses running in one race – such is the availability of talent in their respective yard. For the flats, two of the most notable trainers are Aidan O’Brien and John Gosden. They battle it out in the elite races of the flat term, with O’Brien seemingly boasting an endless stock of quality.

🥇 #RoyalAscot winner No. 7⃣0⃣ for Aidan O'Brien!

More on the way? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/CkJemgjB1z
— Sun Racing (@SunRacing) June 21, 2019

Gosden
does not possess the same amount of talent, but he arguably has the
more elite competitors at his disposal. This includes Stradivarius,
who is backed in
the horse racing betting odds as the odds-on favourite to win the
British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot Racecourse for the
second year in a row. The next important point is the person at
the reins.

Trainers
always have their preferred jockeys, and the best ones get the choice
of the field. The legendary Frankie Dettori always gets his choice of
Gosden’s elite, taking the saddle on Stradivarius and Enable. If
Dettori, Ryan Moore, Andrea Atzeni, Donnacha O’Brien or Oisin
Murphy are in the saddle, you’re going to have a solid chance at a
winner.

Conditions

The weather and the ground are vital to success for horses. The truly great ones can compete and still win in all conditions, although it might be a harder slog on some occasions. Usually, the favourites tend to work best when the ground is good to firm, providing no drama on the track. When it’s wet and soft, it can be a minefield trying to predict the outcome. But that also can help the more daring punters get rewarded for betting on an outsider.

QIPCO #KingGeorge Day…

The Going is now Good to Soft; following 9mm rain since racing yesterday to 7.30am. pic.twitter.com/SdpY3ONBXS
— Ascot Racecourse (@Ascot) July 27, 2019

It
was the case in 2019 Royal Ascot in the opening couple of days where
heavy rain affected results, which
saw a number of unexpected winners.

Analysing
the form book and previous races can be useful to determine whether
the horse you select can compete and win in all circumstances.

Firstly making a profit from football betting is not an easy task, only around 1% of all professional gamblers actually turn a profit from their betting.

Many out there will tell you they can earn you thousands of pounds per week with a hidden loophole in the bookmaker’s system or simply that they have dodgy inside information.

Profiting from football betting is going to be a lot easier if you avoid things like that, betting systems, guaranteed winners and dead certs, etc are plain and simple rubbish they don’t work.

Time To Make Use Of A Real Tipster Service

Tipsters are the only way you will ever make a profit from betting if you can not do it on your own, this is copying professional gamblers bets basically.

Following the right tipster again is a literal minefield but by using proofing sites you can find the best tipsters for football on the internet.

There are thousands of them and proofing sites help weed out the crap so you don’t have to waste a lot of money doing it on your own. There are tipsters out there that are literally making an average of £200-£300 per month in profit to small stakes, scale that up and now your talking right.

Other Factors

There are many other factors that you will need to take into account to be successful too Bankroll Management, for example, is where you adjust your stakes as you go along from a set betting bank that you started with.

Betting banks are usually quite large as you will need to cope with the inevitable losing runs that any gambler will go through when betting, these are leveled out by winning runs long term.

Profiting from football betting is Long Term Not Hit And Run

Simply put you are not going to just jump into a tipster service p[ay your fee and then retire it just does not work like that and if it did don’t you think everyone would be doing it.

Long term is where the profit lies as anyone can pick a few winners one day and then lose all week if you joined on the winning day you’d be thinking oh yeah this is great only to be counting your losses 5 days later.

Giving time to a tipster is imperative, you will need to give a tipsters service at least 6 months to get a true reflection of its profitability.

Many decide to paper trade tipsters for this time (follow it and record the results without betting on the tips) this is something proofing sites do for you also.

Overview

There is a lot more I could say about this but I want to give you the basic gist of how it works, take your time finding the right service and use it to follow their football betting and you will be far more likely to turn a profit in the long term.

The game has a rich history with the first recorded matches believed to have taken place in 1859 and, although this contact sport has evolved over the years, the key elements of the game are still in place over 150 years after its inception.

The AFL is extremely popular with Australian punters and betting is also available worldwide on the league. Every online sportsbook will have a section dedicated to the sport and it has never been easier to place a bet on this highly competitive division.

whittled down to just two. The Grand Final is the best-attended club championship event in the world and marks a significant day in the calendar for Australian sports fans.

The AFL is extremely popular with Australian punters and betting is also available worldwide on the league. Every online sportsbook will have a section dedicated to the sport and it has never been easier to place a bet on this highly competitive division.

Grand Final Betting

AFL fans enjoy betting on a variety of different markets but the Grand Final Winner is amongst the most popular. This is simply a case of predicting which team will win the showpiece event in September.

Some divisions can be disappointingly one-sided with the same teams dominating each year but the AFL is always fiercely competitive and there have been seven different winners since 2010. The West Coast Eagles were the 2018 winners, leaving it late to secure a victory over Collingwood but that was their first championship since 2006 and this variety keeps the AFL fresh and exciting for the neutrals.

The West Coast Eagles are third favourites to win the 2019 Grand Final according to Oddschecker which suggests that the title could change hands yet again. It may be worth opposing the favourite in this market each season as the team at the top of the betting rarely tend to triumph.

This is a season-long bet and it is a great way of keeping across all of the action but those who prefer to place short-term wagers can find plenty of other markets priced up throughout the AFL season.

Moneyline Markets

This is by far the simplest way of betting on a weekly basis and simply requires a match prediction. The game will take one of three outcomes – Home Win, Draw or Away Win (also displayed as 1X2) and odds are available on each of these possible scenarios.

The fixtures are announced months in advance and bookmakers will typically price up the opening contest of the season in November. If the game ends in a tie, it will go into overtime. Some bookmakers do not offer a price for the draw and will simply ask punters to predict the outcome of the match including overtime.

Accumulators on the AFL across the weekend are extremely popular and these will typically include moneyline bets.

match-ups which traditionally deliver entertaining contests can be a great starting point for betting on this market.

The totals are determined by the bookmaker and this is usually priced up according to recent form. Overs is recommended when two teams with plenty of firepower meet. If both sides are struggling to score points, it is worth considering Unders.

Players returning to fitness or forwards being reintroduced into a line-up can often inspire improved displays so it’s always advised to check team news before placing a wager.

Checking the weather conditions is another piece of advice which is likely to come in handy throughout the season. The AFL is played during the winter months and the climate can be fairly unpredictable and this can greatly affect the outcome of a contest. Windy and wet conditions are unlikely to inspire a high-scoring game so always analyse the forecast before committing to an Over/Under bet.

Over/Under – Total Score

Another very popular way of betting is on the Over/Under market. Some punters prefer this method as it doesn’t require picking a winner. Some games will be naturally high-scoring and

Windy and wet conditions are unlikely to inspire a high-scoring game so always analyse the forecast before committing to an Over/Under bet.

Line/Spread Betting

With regular upsets occurring throughout the season, this market has become increasingly popular with AFL punters. This allows each team to overcome a handicap such as -7.5 or +7.5.

Favourites can often be prohibitively priced on the moneyline markets so backing them to win by a clear margin can be a great way of increasing the value. For example: If Collingwood were taking on Essendon and the spread is set at -8.5, they would have to win by 9 clear points in order to trigger a payout.

It is very simple to calculate:

If you subtract 8.5 from Collingwood’s total points in the game and they would still be winning, they have successfully overcome the handicap.

Prop Bets

With an increased amount of interest in AFL betting, prop bets have become commonplace in recent years. These involve special markets which focus on team or individual player performance. For example, Player A to claim 25+ disposals in a game or Team B to score the first points.

These are particularly popular with dedicated fans of the league who closely follow and analyse team performance on a weekly basis.

Things to Consider

Weather Conditions

As previously mentioned, weather conditions can greatly impact the outcome of any AFL game. Pitches can become boggy and play can often become fragmented as a result of poor visibility. Forecasts can easily be accessed online and this must be taken into consideration before placing a bet. If one team has a noticeable anomaly in their form-line, this could have been caused by inclement conditions.

Team News

Teams can often go on losing runs following the injury of a key player. Having to field rookie forwards or inexperienced full-backs could result in sloppy play. Missing players can have a huge impact on the results in the AFL and can have a detrimental effect on team morale as well.

Consider the Underdog

Shocks do occur in the AFL and unfancied teams should not be completely written off. With so many different teams winning the Grand Final in recent years, the division isn’t short on drama and twists and turns are part and parcel of the regular season. Don’t fall into the trap of assuming all of the favourites will emerge victorious each weekend.

Aussie Rules betting is extremely enjoyable and it is a great way of following all of the action throughout the course of the season. With an increasing amount of online bookmakers pricing up a plethora of markets on a weekly basis, there has never been a better time to wager on the AFL.

Are you an online or offline slot player? Then this How To Win On Slots Guide is the only thing you will need to read in order to give yourself the best chance of winning big at the slots.

Online slots are one of the most exciting things you can play either in a bookies or at the casino, and this is because of the thrill they give when you trigger a bonus or win a progressive jackpot. There is nobody online who can guarantee you will win every time you play any slot you come across, but I can help you give yourself the best chance of winning with the following do’s and don’ts.

Many slot players often ask me the big question: “How do you win on the slot machines?” or “Are there systems for beating the slot machines?” and “How have others beaten the machines?”.

The answer to those questions is NO. Why because odds on slots are fixed this basically means each spin on a slot is just as likely as the last to win you the jackpot or trigger a bonus feature. Slots are purely down to luck so one rule you should always follow is if it is not your day it is not your day, know when to give up.

How To Win On Slots – The Do’s

Do Number 1 – Higher RTP slots have higher payback percentages and offer more chances for you to win

RTP – Or return to player is something you can look up online for any slot you play, the higher the RTP the more likely you will win on any slot you play.

Return to Player (RTP) is the term casinos use to describe the percentage of all the wagered money a VLT or slot machine will pay back to players over time. For example, if you make a hundred £1 bets on a machine on which the RTP is 90%, you might expect to get back about £90 in wins.

The higher it costs per spin on a slot usually means the higher the RTP, though sometimes there are some lower stake slots that have higher RTP’s and its well worth your time finding out which slots offer this to you. Not only does it mean you will get more spins for your money but you will have more opportunity to win the jackpot or progressive.

Do Number 2 – If you are playing a progressive slot, make sure you are staking the required amount to be able to actually win it.

There is no point what so ever in playing a slot to win a progressive if you are betting let’s say £1 per spin but when you read the terms of the progressive you have to be betting £10 per spin to stand a chance.

It’s not only a waste of your time it is a waste of your money too. The typical set up is a four-tier progressive with levels labeled mini, minor, major and grand, or bronze, silver, gold, and platinum, or something to that name.

Make sure you read the slots payout section in order to ensure you actually can win the jackpot you want to win. A percentage of all stakes wagered on that slot are contributed to the progressive jackpot (that’s why it ticks up in real time) some slots will only let you win the top progressive if you play at max stakes.

Note: Progressive jackpot slots offer lower payouts on the normal game and bonus features due to the contribution from each bet to the jackpot fund.

Do Number 3 – Always play within your means and within a set budget

This is something that many slot players fail at and by doing so in the long term will suck any fun you have in playing slots. Play to a set budget and always have a bottom line that you will quit playing at.

Let’s face it more than 90% of the time you are going to end up losing your money when you play a slot unless you get lucky, so set a staking plan that suits your needs, the RTP of the slot and a duration that you want to play for.

It can often pay to bet small, often in my time of playing slots, I won more betting at 50p or £1 per spin than when I raised my stakes to £5 or £10 per spin.

Do Number 4 – never give up on a hot slot (within reason)

Sometimes slots are HOT and that means they are paying out a lot more than they do normally, this can be for one of many reasons either a glitch or an increased payout amount due to more players playing and so on.

If a slot is HOT and you keeping hitting the bonus lets say don’t give up on it after one or two bonuses often you can hit double figures on bonus triggers on a hot slot and it can certainly increase your bank balance.

Do not get carried away though set a bottom line after each bonus and if it doesn’t trigger after a certain amount of spins leave it and try later. Keep your betting bank in your mind at all times.

An example of a hot slot is below..

Do Number 5 – try betting low then now and again raising your stake for a few spins

Time after time this has dropped in for me a ton of spins at 50p per spin than a crazy raise to £2 per spin for 10 spins and boom the bonus has dropped in and landed me a few hundred quid in my betting bank.

Some may say this is a myth but it has happened far too often to me for me to believe that. Higher stakes like I said doesn’t always mean a big bonus payout though I have had as low as 1x on £10 per spin..heartbreaking.

Do Number 6 – look for machines (bookies only) that someone has just lost big on

Be very careful with this one and make sure that person isn’t going to be coming back to that machine as it can get you in trouble, you could be called a vulture or worse lol.

Very often I have found that playing slot that someone just lost big on can mean an instant profit for me but again you have to know where to stop or that profit can turn into a big loss of your own.

Finally, Do Number 7 – Know when to quit!

How many hard luck stories start off with “I had it up to £x” but then I lost it all. This is because most gamblers do not know when to quit and they give all their winnings back plus extra money they didn’t want to lose.

Know when to quit and you can beat the slots a lot easier than you might think.

Slots Mythbuster

There are a fair few myths when it comes to slot playing but I will keep to the three main ones that really irritate me when people start to talk about them either online or offline.

myth 1 – The bonus is due

No, it is not! It is just as due now as it was when you started playing or when someone else just finished playing. You have exactly the same chance of landing a bonus on every spin.

myth 2 – You won’t get the bonus again now you just had it, play something else!

Bullshit! I have hit bonuses three times in a row in less than 10 spins, as I said above you have exactly the same chance of landing a bonus on the next spin after having had a bonus.

myth 3 – The cashier has pressed a button and stopped you from winning

This one usually comes from the reprobates in a local bookmaker that think a cashier that works behind the desk in bookmakers can press a button and make you start losing. All I can say to this one is it is as stupid as it sounds.

Finally

Have fun and when the fun stops stop!

Many gamblers out there even if they are not regular ones will know about the FOBT machines inside a highstreet bookmakers. FOBT’S otherwise known as Fixed Odds Betting Terminals have quickly taken over as the go-to gambling device for many punters out there as it offers hundreds of games including Slots, Roulette, Blackjack, Virtual Sports and many more.

A fixed odds betting terminal (FOBT) is a type of electronic slot machine normally found in betting shops in the United Kingdom and introduced in 2001. The terminals allow players to bet on the outcome of various games and events which have fixed odds, with the theoretical percentage return to player (RTP) being displayed on the machine by law.[1] Like all casino games, the “house” (i.e. the betting shop) has a built-in advantage. Typically, slot machine FOBTs have an RTP of 90% to 94% depending on the chosen stake, and standard roulette FOBTs have a long-term average RTP of 97%.

Known as the crack cocaine of gambling partly as they are more addictive than anything else in the gambling world, they are certainly part of a bigger problem that faces the UK’s gambling market. The third biggest sector after online and the lottery is now the fixed odds betting terminal (FOBT)

FOBTs are not the only culprits when it comes to problem gambling.

A survey conducted by social research agency NatCen found the top five activities with the highest proportions of problem gamblers were:

Spread betting, where bets are placed on whether an outcome will be above or below an offered range (20.1%)

Betting exchanges, where your bet on the outcome of an event is matched with someone with the opposing bet (16.2%)

Playing poker in pubs or clubs (15.9%)

Betting on events with a bookmaker, not online (15.5%)

Playing machines in bookmakers, including FOBTs (11.5%)

The most popular types of gambling in the country – National Lottery draws, other lotteries and scratchcards – are associated with the lowest levels of problem gambling.

The number of problem gamblers is said to have risen above 430,000 this year and this arguably is down to FOBT’S. You will see many people lose tons of money in seconds on FOBT roulette which allows users to lose up to £100 in around 10 seconds. Many do not realise the maximum win any bet can return on a FOBT is £500 so you are already at a disadvantage compared to if you played online roulette or slots.

Each bookmaker is allowed just 4 FOBT machines in their stores though many get around this by buying two premises together and running them as separate shops thus allowing 8 machines in a smaller area.

The number of bookmakers has also increased due to the demand for FOBT’s and the number of addicted gamblers playing them, a win-win for bookmakers no matter what they say.

FOBT’s contain a random number generator which is said to generate random results meaning fair gambling for those that play them. Though I can certainly say it never feels fair when you play them especially when it comes to Roulette, I have seen people cover 35 of 36 numbers and the next 5 spins return zero, zero, zero and the number they had not covered twice.

There is a coming legislation that will limit the amount a player can lose. The maximum stake on fixed-odds betting terminals (FOBTs) will be reduced to £2 under new rules unveiled by the government. Currently, people can bet up to £100 every 20 seconds on electronic casino games such as roulette, slots and other games such as Blackjack.

I welcome the change and feel there should be far more restrictions applied to the FOBT’s and that at-risk users should be catered for and given far more help and assistance both by staff and the bookmakers.

So recently I banned myself from my local bookies and I realized how hard it is to find out how to self-exclude yourself from bookmakers offline and online too.

It was very empowering to be able to call a number to speak to someone friendly explain to them which shops I wanted to exclude from and where. They were very helpful they even helped me exclude from shops which I didn’t know where there but that were close to other bookies I used to visit.

After you get off the phone all you do is send a copy of your driving license or passport along with a selfie of yourself which will then be circulated to the bookmakers you want to self-exclude from. You will get an email requesting these documents so make sure its the right company you send them too.

Once this is done yes you may be able to walk into a bookie and place a bet but you have now agreed not to be paid out any winnings as well as not being refunded any cash you have lost. It may pay to speak tp each bookmakers staff and explain to them you have excluded but if like me all you needed was some form of rule that you cannot bet the phone call and ID should be enough.

I am already spending money on things I used to say to myself if I win I will buy! I used to go into a TV shop for example as I wanted a new 4k smart UHD hdr tv. I used to say to myself £400 that’s too much for a TV. I would then go on to lose £100+ in a bookie shop every week and go without things I needed without a second thought.

I know this will resonate with many other gamblers out there and I want to give something back to you by telling you how to stop yourself from losing money that you don’t really want to lose. You can then treat your partner every month by him or her a gift even if it’s only £20 it was £20 you’d have put straight in FOBT machine and not given it a second thought.

FOBT (fixed odds betting machines) or the machines which you see many play slots and roulette on in bookmakers are not fair. They have also been proven to be more addictive than crack cocaine. Do not lie to yourself you are a form of an addict if you go to the shop for milk as I did yet you find yourself sitting at a machine putting a £20 note in 2 minutes later and losing that and more, you need to break the cycle.

How To Self Exclude Yourself From Bookmakers Online And Offline

Let me reveal what I did to end my gambling both online and offline, and the good part is you can do both in under 20 minutes and that is no joke.

Offline self-exclusion from bookmaker shops on the high street

Call this number 0800 294 2060 and simply tell them you want to self-exclude from bookmaker shops in your area where you live, where you work or anywhere at all where you could end up walking into a bookmaker and losing money you don’t want to lose or can’t afford to lose.

For more information visit this website https://self-exclusion.co.uk/ it has all the up to date information on how you can self-exclude yourself from bookies shops on any high street in the UK.

Once you have finished that 2 or 3-minute phone call you are all set, send off your ID and a selfie of your face. There is no point you trying to win big anymore as the bookmaker no longer has to pay you out and you have agreed to that too. You have also agreed not to be refunded any losses after the self-exclusion.

Online self-exclusion from online bookmakers and Casinos and even Bingo sites

Online self-exclusion is increasingly easier compared to years ago. To exclude yourself from nearly all online casinos, bingo sites and other gambling areas online you will need to sign up to GamStop at this website https://www.gamstop.co.uk/.

It is currently in stage one this is the text from the Gamstop website which will expalin more what that means.

GAMSTOP currently includes a large number of online gambling websites, but not all. In due course, all online gambling websites will be required to join by the Gambling Commission.

Until then you can register early with GAMSTOP, which will exclude you from the gambling websites that have signed up already.

Coverage will increase as more online gambling firms join the scheme, without you having to reregister with GAMSTOP. A list of participating gambling companies is in the footer of the site. If you gamble online with a company that is not listed and want to be excluded from the site, then you will need to contact them directly.

Once you register with Gamstop the hard bit is done, more and more casinos and bookies are having to join this responsible gambling practice sob y joining it you willb e doing yourself a big favour, there will be no ppnit gambling at any casino or bookie just incase you win big or small you probably wont be paid out.

Many onlnie casinos even if they are not listed as part of Gamcare may be aprt of another casino under the same license that is.

Take care of yourself take control back of your life and good luck to you!

You may see your friends running into bookmaker shops at the weekends to get their acca on before kick off. But what is a Football Accumulator Bet?

A football accumulator is a bet you place that must combine two or more selections into a single bet. It will only be a winner if and when all of your selections win. Advantages of accumulators include higher odds and higher returns this is mainly due to the likelihood of the bet landing being very slim especially if your acca has more than 3 or 4 results that need to come in.

Even the best gamblers out there struggle to land acca bets on a regular basis. Anyone that tells you they can win their acca bet every time is a lier pure and simple.

Each Way Acca

Usually used more on horse racing and sports that have more than 2 outcomes.

The important distinction to make with each way accumulators or multiples is that an each way bet is still only 2 bets – 1 for ALL selections to win and 1 for ALL selections to place. This means that if one of your selections does not go on to win or place – the whole bet is lost. So if you have 3 winners and one place even though it’s an each-way acca it’s still a loser for the win part as you have to have 4 winners, it will be an each way winner however but the winnings will be drastically lower.

How To Place An Acca Bet

There are two ways currently to place an accumulator bet and that is in a bookmaker shop or online.

Online

Browse the bookmaker’s website as normal placing a single bet on your chosen football fixture or horse race and one by one, click on the selections you wish to add to your acca (they will be added to your bet slip at the bottom/top-right of the screen). Now, look for accumulator in the bet slip (it’s usually a checkbox that you can tick)Enter the amount you want to place in the ‘Stake’ box next to the acca option you wish to place.

It should show you your estimated return should you be lucky enough to get all your predictions correct and it should also say its an accumulator. This applies for all online bookmakers.

Offline

Choose a bookmaker’s shop by you that you want to place your bet at and walk in. Now you have two options either pick up a quickslip which will have all that days football fixtures on and select the fixtures you want to add to your acca.

You will need to use a pen usually to put a line in a box to select your teams and then select acca, and write your total stake in the stake box. Give this slip to the cashier and they will place your bet for you and give you your bet slip. Cashiers are happy to assist you with any bets your unsure on how to place should you need further help.

The other option is to use the betting terminals which are now the more popular and faster option with many punters these days as you can avoid cues at cashier desks. Simply go to the terminal and choose the coupon you want (for example today’s matches) add the teams to your acca as normal and when you are finished simply locate the place bet option (bottom right usually) and ensure you have chosen acca and hit place bet.

The betting terminal will then print out your bet slip. Keep it safe cause you will need to scan the barcode on this slip into the terminal to print out a credit voucher to collect any winnings.

When it comes to placing acca or accumulator bets otherwise known as perms (permutations) it can become very confusing for someone who has never done one before. This is mainly due to the strange names used to describe them such as Goliath and Yankee.

Below are the betting multiples explained, each bet type is explained in more detail which should help you work out what each one is and whether or not it will suit your required betting strategy.

Win Bets

Single

A Single is a bet on 1 selection in 1 event. If your selection wins, so do you.

Double

A Double is 1 bet made up of 2 selections in different events. Both selections must be successful for your bet to win.

Treble

A Treble is 1 bet involving 3 selections in different events. All 3 selections have to win for your bet to win.

4-Fold Accumulator

A 4-Fold Accumulator is 1 bet made up of 4 selections in different events. If they all win, so do you. But if any of the selections lose, your bet does too.

Bet Types with more than 1 unit stake

The following bet types are all made up of more than one bet. Your stake is multiplied by the amount of bets involved and as long as one of the bets wins, you will receive some winnings (to get maximum winnings, all the bets must win).

Patent

A Patent has 7 bets, but is made up of 3 selections. Your 3 selections make up 3 single bets, 3 double bets and 1 treble bet.

Trixie

A Trixie has 4 bets and totals 3 selections. It contains 3 doubles and 1 treble bet.

Yankee

A Yankee has 11 bets involving 4 selections. You have 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 four-fold.

Lucky 15

A Lucky 15 consists of 15 bets involving 4 selections. You will have 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 four-fold.

Canadian/Super Yankee

A Canadian (sometimes known as a Super Yankee) has 5 selections which total 26 bets. There are 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds plus 1 five-fold.

Lucky 31

A Lucky 31 consists of 31 bets involving 5 selections. It has 5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds and 1 five-fold.

Heinz

A Heinz is 57 bets from 6 selections. There are 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, 6 five-folds and 1 six-fold.

Lucky 63

A Lucky 63 is made up of 63 bets from 6 selections. You have 6 singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, 6 five-folds and 1 six-fold.

Super Heinz

A Super Heinz is 120 bets from 7 selections. It has 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 four-folds, 21 five-folds, 7 six-folds and 1 seven-fold.

Goliath

A Goliath consists of 247 bets from 8 selections. There are 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four-folds, 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds, 8 seven-folds and 1 eight-fold.

Perm (or Permutation) Betting

If you’ve made more than 2 selections, it’s possible to ‘perm’ them in a bet. This allows you to bet on all the doubles in 3 selections, all the trebles in 4 selections or all the 4-folds in 5 selections etc.

This is a convenient way to place a lot of multiple bets and can produce great winnings. For instance, if you place a perm bet of doubles from 4 selections you will receive some winnings if only 2 of your selections win.

To get the maximum winnings from this type of bet, all your selections have to win. When you place your bet, you’ll be shown a box which calculates your possible winnings* – please be aware that these are your maximum winnings and will only be achieved if all your selections win.

Lay Betting

Lay Betting is the option on Exchanges such as Betfair where punters can play the role of a traditional bookmaker but offering odds to sell a bet instead of the usual odds to back a bet. “that horse won’t win this race”; “I bet you it won’t finish”; “They’ll never win if they don’t sub him off.”

In other words lay betting is backing something to lose.

Picture the scene, you’re in your local bookmaker shop and you are placing a bet on a horse race that’s about to come on live in the shop at any moment. You quickly place your bet which is a tip from one of these tipsters for horse racing you have found on a hot streak.

Soon after scribbling at the speed of light the horse’s name (lucky star), and your stake the meeting and the time and so on the race is about to go off.

The bets on and away the horses go, you watch intently as your horse seems to be traveling quite well as they come towards the end of the race. The commentator screams as they come towards the end of the race “and Lucky Star hits the front at the furlong pole and there is only one threat to him here comes Green Dreamer down the outside”.

It’s at this point that your horse Lucky Star bumps into Green Dreamer and your horse’s jockey has the whip in the wrong hand, for example, your horse rallies but doesn’t get back up due to the interference and poor jockeying from the rival horse.

The steward’s enquiry sirens play after the race and there is an intense wait to see what the stewards decide upon the race, The stewards decide that Green Dreamer was seriously impeded and would have won the race, so they amend the result to Green Dreamer as the winner and your horse is now second so you don’t get paid.

Or do you? Many bookmakers these days payout on a thing called the first past the post ruling, this means whatever horse finished first they will pay out on that horse as well as the amended result. Worth checking that your online bookmaker pays out on first past the post and amended result as this happens more often than you would imagine.

An example of a stewards enquiry

Below is a video of a stewards enquiry which shows what can happen to your horse if something happens during the race. Amended results due to stewards enquiries are rarer these days but they still happen but if your horse won due to the interference its wise to have a bookie that pays out on first past the post.

Bookmakers FPP (first past the post) Rules

Below I have compiled a number of popular bookmakers rules on first past the post, you may be shocked to find that one of the online bookmakers on this list does not pay out on first past the post.
